Diagnosing Epilepsy: EEGs are often used to detect abnormal brain activity associated with epilepsy, aiding in the diagnosis and management of this condition.
Evaluating Brain Function: Doctors may recommend an EEG to assess brain function in cases of confusion, memory issues, or suspected brain disorders.
Monitoring Treatment: For individuals already diagnosed with epilepsy or other brain-related disorders, EEGs are useful in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment plans.
Research Purposes: EEGs can also be utilized in research settings to study brain activity patterns associated with various mental health conditions.
Before the EEG procedure, you will be prepared by one of our trained technicians. You may be asked to wash your hair prior to the test, as clean hair improves electrode contact with the scalp.
During the EEG, small metal discs (electrodes) will be attached to your scalp using a special adhesive. These electrodes are connected by wires to an amplifier, which records the electrical activity in your brain.
You will be comfortably positioned in a relaxed state, either sitting or lying down, during the EEG test. You'll be asked to relax and may be given specific instructions to close your eyes, open and close them, or perform other simple tasks during the recording.
The test typically takes about 30-60 minutes. Once the recording is complete, the electrodes will be removed, and you can resume your regular activities immediately.
